Sabaidee all of you. If you are planning to travel to Barcamp Vientiane, here some useful information:

By flight: Vietnam Airlines via Phnom Penh, Lao Airlines via Bangkok, AirAsia via Kuala Lumpur. Or take a Nok Air from Bangkok to Udonthani and take a direct bus at a bus station near Central World from Udonthani to Vientiane. You can get a visa on arrival. It costs about $30 to $50, No Visa for Asian Countries.

By train: from train station Bangkok, prices between 800 Thai Baht (second class) and 1500 Thai Baht (first class). It takes 14 hours overnight, you will arrive in Vientiane arround 11 am. Notice that you need transport from Thanalang train station, there are some taxis and tuktuk available. It takes 40 minutes to the city from there.

By bus: Recommended. There is a BKK > VTE bus from Bangkok Mochit station around 1000 baht. It takes 8-9 hours, From 20:00 and will reach Vientiane around 07:00 at Morning market. Take a Tuktuk from there to either riverside where many guest houses are or to our Barcamp venue.

Accommodation: Guesthouses are available in downtown, mainly at the riverside. Check agoda.com for hotels.

Wifi. Is available in may restaurants, hotels and coffee shops for free.

Phone: You can buy a preepaid simcard in many supermarkets, gives you 3G/4G Internet as well. For 4G get Mphone, Unitel but make sure 4G is activated.

Getting Around: If you’re planing to travel only inside the city, recommended to rent a motorbike or a bicycle.
